Charles, Fred, Henry, Francis & Victor were all sons of Samuel & Mary Catherine Adams. The family lived at Halghton where Samuel was a farmer & miller.

Born 28th February 1887 in Hanmer, he attended the local school. In 1917, he joined the 2nd Wellington Regiment in New Zealand. He served in France and was demobilised in 1919. His family said that he was discharged in the UK and did not return to New Zealand.
He married Elizabeth Panniers in 1920 (Dec qtr., Bromyard dist). In the 1939 census he is a Dairy Farmer in Stoke Lacy, Hereford with his wife & a daughter Joyce Christine.
Probate details on Ancestry state that he died 26 Jan 1974 aged 87 of East View, Burley Gate, in Herefordshire

Warrant Officer Frederick William Adams, The Mill, Hanmer

Frederick William was born 25th September 1888 in Hanmer.
Like his brothers, he initially attended Hanmer school, but his obituary infers that he later transferred to Whitchurch Sir John Talbot’s.
1911 census, he is boarding in Whitchurch working as a Railway Clerk.

From Ancestry, we see that 13th May 1924 he was a 1st class passenger aboard ‘Manzanares’ to Santa Marta, Colombia, working as a wireless operator. Another document shows he returned aboard the ‘Bayano’ arriving in Bristol in 1927.
In 1939 he is living in Weymouth with his inferred wife Mary. His occupation is still connected with radio engineering.
He died Jan 6th 1965 and his obituary gives a few more details of his life. He was buried at Hanmer.

Private 29888 Henry Stanley Adams, Bryn Newydd Farm, Halghton 14th Royal Warwicks


Henry Stanley was born 15th March 1890 in Hanmer, where he attended the local school.
In 1911 he is working on his father’s farm in Halghton.
He was killed in action April 13th 1918 and has no known grave, but is named on the Ploegsteert Memorial, in Belgium. He is also remembered on his parents’ headstone in Hanmer Churchyard

Private 29889 Francis Lloyd Adams, Bryn Newydd Farm, Halghton, 14th Royal Warwicks.


His Medal Index Card states he first served as no. 41700 Middlesex Regiment and was subsequently transferred as no. 17213 in the 9th Lancers, before joining the Royal Warwicks as Private 29889.
Born 11th May 1896, he attended Hanmer school until 1910.
In 1911 census, he is a school boarder in Wem.
He married Mary M Williams Dec qtr 1928 and in the 1939 census, they are at Bryn Newydd Farm with an inferred son Neville L.
He died December 17th 1984 and is buried at Hanmer with his wife Mary Magdalene

Gunner Victor Stuart Adams, Bryn Newydd Farm, 106191 R.G.A.


He began his military service in July 1916, serving in France from March 1917 – March 1918. He was awarded the Victory & British War Medals
Victor was born 17 November 1897 in Hanmer where he was baptised on 16 January 1898. Like his brothers, he attended Hanmer School.
He married Gladys Mary Owen in 1927 and in 1939, they are living in Aston, near Nantwich where Victor is a Dairy Farmer.
Victor died in 1976 and is buried at Hanmer.
