According to his Medal Index card, he enlisted as Private 12804 RWF, and served in France with 9th Battalion RWF as a Lance-Corporal from 19 July 1915. He rose to Lance-Sergeant. Having attended an Officer Cadet Training Unit, he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 13 November 1918 in the 3rd Battalion RWF. Demobilised 26 September 1919. In about 1919-20 he was resident 70 Grace Road, Ellesmere Port, near Birkenhead; subsequently Horsemans Green, Whitchurch. By February 1921 his address was Dukes Cottages, Halghton, Whitchurch.
William’s Flintshire Record of Service notes that he was wounded at Loos Sept 29, 1915 and wounded on the Somme July 7 1916.
According to the 1939 census, William was born 19th November 1895

He married Rhoda Warner (from the Sarn) in 1918
1939 William, Rhoda & 4 children are living at Halghton Mill House. William’s occupation is recorded as a Rating & Valuation Officer, Relieving Officer, Air Raid Precautions Officer and Chief Billeting Officer.
William died 11th August 1971 and is buried in Hanmer churchyard.
