Corporal Samuel Birch, G/22574 The Queens Royal Reg; 17561 21st Lancers; G19797 Royal West Kents


His Flintshire Record of Service states that he went to France Dec 1916 and was present at the Battle of Arras April 1917 and at Ypres in September 1917. The following month, he went to Italy, then France March 1918 where he took part in the Great Advance August 1918.
Samuel was born 21st July 1890 in Bronington, where he was baptised in the local church.
The family lived at Stimmey Farm, but by 1901 had moved to Hanmer Hall Farm and Samuel attended Hanmer school, eventually leaving in 1903.
He continued to help at the family farm and eventually took over the running, remaining there with his sister Elizabeth until his death 18th June 1958. He was interred at Hanmer Burial Ground on Friday, 20th June.

Arthur was called up for service towards the end of the war and did not serve out of England.
He was born 31st December 1893 in Bronington, before the family moved to Hanmer Hall. Arthur went to Hanmer school with many other of our Hanmer soldiers.
He married Sarah E (Sally) Fatherson in 1924 and the family farmed at Church Farm, Bettisfield.
He died 2 July 1966.
