Born in Adderley, Market Drayton abt 1884 later known as Edward, he worked on the family farm at Tart’s Hill. He married Mary Ellen Johnson in 1922.
Charles Edward died 8th January 1939 and is buried at Hanmer, with his wife Mary Ellen. His probate details are on Ancestry.

Many of his Army Service Records (badly charred by fire) are available to view on Ancestry. When he enlisted, his address was given as Red Hall Lane, Penley and his occupation was a farm bailiff. He had at least two periods in hospital. In 1919 he overstayed his embarkation leave by 55 hours and 30 minutes. Besides being admonished, he had to forfeit 4 days pay!
Registered as Joseph Athelston Corbet Allen, born Halghton 26 Nov 1897*, he grew up on the family farm at Tart’s Hill
1939 he is living at Knowle House Farm where he is a Dairy Farmer living with his inferred wife Gladys Sarah (*birth date agrees)
Joseph Athelstan Allen died Sept qtr 1982 North Shrops district (*BMD states birth date)

There is also a Flintshire Card for Bombardier 114510 Percy Allen, Tarts Hill, Halghton – Royal Field Artillery. The card states that he served from Oct 1915 – February 1919. He went to France March 1916 and was wounded at Ypres, July 1917. His name
Medal Index Card states served as Gunner. Later transferred as no. 249995 Royal Engineers.

He is not in the Hanmer Book of Remembrance, but is likely to be a younger brother.
In 1911 he was living with his Aunt & Uncle in Market Drayton but it does say that he was born in Hanmer about 1895. (BMD has a Percy Henry Allen born June qtr 1894. He was baptised in St Chad’s, Hanmer)
According to a family member, he married Frances Gertrude Lalley and had a son.
