Private George Cartwright; 2557 South Wales Borderers
George was born 7th April 1899, the son of William Cartwright & Hester Humphries. He was baptised 23 days later in St. Chad’s Church, Hanmer. The family lived in the Tybroughton/ Eglwys Cross area and like his siblings, he attended Hanmer school. He was the step brother to Albert Humphries/Cartwright who sadly lost his life in the war (see The Fallen).
George married Martha (Patty) Williams in 1919 and in 1939 they are living in Aston near Hawarden. George is a Motor Engineer.
He died 6th December 1984 and is buried at Hanmer.
