After WW1, Flintshire was one of the few Counties to record the contribution each & every serviceman made to the war effort. The County Record Office at Hawarden holds the information and has an index card for each serviceman. The cards belonging to the men who died had the top right hand corner snipped off.
The site contains the names of those who served in and around Hanmer together with a little bit of their histories. As well as information from the Flintshire Record Cards, I have used local knowledge, information found on Ancestry.co.uk, and read through many old Whitchurch Heralds. I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the content. It is intended as a starting point for people to do their own research – to concur or disagree! Whilst I have tried to check the data, obviously mistakes can be made and people’s memories fade. If there is something which you believe to be incorrect or you wish to be removed, please contact me.
My grateful thanks to Rev Clive Hughes for sharing his research several years ago, some of which I have probably plagiarised.
If you can help with more family photos or stories, please get in touch.
