Stephen was born 6th April 1888 in Hanmer and attended the village school.

  • 1891 with Grandmother & parents in Horseman’s Green
  • 1901 with parents in Horseman’s Green
  • 1911 working as a cowman at New Hall, Hanmer

He married Bertha Suckley of Threapwood in 1917 and in the 1939 census, they are living at Mill Cottage, Horseman’s Green with son Wilfred S.  Stephen is a Council Roadman

He died 27th April 1970 and is buried at Hanmer with his wife Bertha.  His obituary gives us more information about his life.

Wilfred Stockley was born 4th February in Hanmer and attended the local school. The name Stockley was his mother’s maiden name

  • 1901 with parents in Horseman’s Green
  • 1911 school boy living with family at Horseman’s Green
  • 1939 still single, he was living at Glebe Farm, Horseman’s Green assisting his father on the farm.


He died May 20th 1983 and is buried at Hanmer
