Lance Sergeant Corbet John Griffiths; 20912 Kings Shropshire Light Infantry

Awarded the Victory & British War Medal

His Flintshire Record of Service states that he joined the Shropshire ? 11th June 1915 and was transferred to the 6th K.S.L.I. on 4th December 1916. He was a Prisoner of War in Germany from 23rd March 1918 until 10th December 1918 and was demobilised 21st March 1919.

Corbet John was born 29th November 1884 in Onslow, Pontesbury, Shropshire the son of James & Fanny Griffiths.

  • 1891: Keeper’s Cottage, Onslow, Pontesbury with parents and siblings
  • 1901: Boarder in St Martin’s working as a game keeper
  • 1911: Gamekeeper living at Gt Arrowery, Hanmer with his widowed mother
  • 1918 A.V.L: living at Southport Villas, Tybroughton

In 1913, he married Evelyn Nora Adams from Ellesmere, an ex school teacher. After the war, they moved to Ledbury where Corbet worked as a game keeper before moving to Home Farm, Onslow, Shropshire. They raised five children, four girls and a son Jack.

Corbet died 14th March 1966
