Fred was born 6th September 1890 in Hanmer, where he was baptised 28th September and he attended the local school.
In 1891 census the family address is Whitchurch Road, Hanmer which may be the same place as the address in 1901 – Croxton Pool. In 1911 he is working at the neighbouring Croxton Farm as a waggonner. He was killed in action, aged 25 and is buried at Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-St.Eloi, near Arras, France.   “Soldiers Died in the Great War” states born at Hanmer, enlisted at Port Sunlight. Medal Index Card states landed in France 25 September 1915 and killed in action 13 May 1916. [The 13th (Wirral) Battalion Cheshire Regiment was raised at Port Sunlight from 1 September 1914 by Gershom Stuart MP.  It arrived in France in September 1915 with 25th Division and was engaged at Vimy Ridge, Arras during May 1916].
